Android Top Platform, Blackberry Losing Ground

According to Comscore, Android is now the top platform for smartphones and it's achieved this at the expense of Research in Motion.

Android's share of smartphone subscribers has increased to 31.2% in 2011 from 23.5% in 2010. During the same period, RIM's share dropped to 30.4% from 35.8% last year. Apple has remained steady at just under 25%.

I take this as a sign that Blackberry would be best served by focusing on professional/enterprise clients and leave the consumer smartphone market to Google and Apple. A Blackberry will never be mistaken for a cool device - it's the opposite of hip - and the number of people using RIM's platform demonstrates this.
